Ange Delerce Takes the Early Lead in a Tightly Packed Standings

Ledro, June 19, 2026 – A two-part day marked the opening of the fifteenth edition of the OM International Ledro Match Race, the only match racing event held in Italy to be awarded Grade 2 status on the World Match Racing Tour. Organized by the Associazione Vela Lago di Ledro, the event has attracted twelve crews, six of whom are ranked within the top 20 of the world match racing rankings.

As anticipated, a pleasant morning breeze allowed for the swift completion of five flights, while a stormy afternoon brought racing to an early halt. PRO Fabio Barasso was ultimately forced to surrender to the unstable weather conditions, sending the fleet ashore after the completion of the seventh flight. While the breeze may have been inconsistent, the skippers certainly were not, producing close-fought duels and, at times, some very tight encounters, keeping the International Umpire team led by Martin Clasen—and including Italians Luigi Bertini and Flavio Carsughi—fully occupied throughout the day.

Leading the provisional standings is France’s Ange Delerce, currently ranked fifteenth in the world, with a solid 80% record (4-1). Four sailors share second place on 75% (3-0): former European Champion Eric Monnin, Lennard Bal, Riccardo Sepe, and Timothée Rossi. Top seed Christian Hamilton remains in contention with a 3-2 scoreline, while Greece’s Angelos Papageorgiou struggled to find his rhythm, ending the day winless after five matches.

Provided the weather settles, the Race Committee is planning a long day on the water tomorrow, with the primary objective of completing the Round Robin stage.
